Orientation Day

This Wednesday, is our school orientation day.

It is also Tokoroa High School and Forest View High Schools Orientation day for the Yr8's intermediate and full primamry schools. On the day students going to either of the schools will be taken there and be told about what classes they will be in, their Tutors, Lakes/Houses and teachers. They will get a chance to explore the school. When we (the Year 8's) are at the high school's the year 6's from the primary schools will come and find out what class they are in and who is in their class with them.

EOTC- Taupo

Thursday 24th November 2011

Yesterday Rms 5,6,7,8 went on a really awesome trip to Taupo. The Day started at 7 am(Come on that's too early!) We were all seated exitedly in our groups 1,2 & 3.

At 7:30am the buses we all eagerly jumped on the bus. The bus that Rm 7 and a bit of Rm 5 went was filled with laughter. Music was beautifully sang by our amazing singers Rm 7: Taylor, Anjewel, Kalan. Rm 5: Jarvis. When we got to Taupo around 8:30am we went to the Wairakei Thermal Valley we had a lovely tour and got find out about some ancient Maori history and fell the soothing warm waters of the thermal pools. Our Tour guide told us that the thermal pools were natural and if you were to bate in them they will sooth and heal your skin.

At 10:30am we went to the volcanic centre we learnt all about the Volcanoes of N.Z and how they are formed and how they erupt.We also given a task sheet to fill out and complete before we got a turn in the 6.3 magnitude earthquke machine that was so FUN.We then filled our staving stomachs with yummy McDonald's.

At 12:30pm we arrived at the Huka cruise boat.The driver, Dave was very informative and helpful if we and any questions.After about an hour of being on boat we arrived at the base of the Huka falls.The huka falls were amazingly beautiful from every view. As the water splashed down it turned into a beautiful white colour. The bits of water that weren't white were an astounding shade of aqua. In our group we were allowed to go up onto the front of the boat. It was a little bit like the Titanic scene. Wind was blowing in our faces being up there but it was the place with the best view of the surrounding area. On our way back from the Huka Falls, Dave gave us a paper and pen to do a quiz on what we had learnt. Girls vs Boys. We had Ms. Lamont and Ms. Samson to help us as the boys had Mr.Tiare and Mr. Criegh-Smith to help them. In the end the boys won and and girls were on clean up duty after we finish at the A.C. Baths.

At 3:00pm we finally arrived at the A.C.Baths Events Centre! Everyone was excited to go have some fun! First the kids that were on the rock Climbing Wall went in and got their bands. Next were the Hydrosliders, then the swimmers and lastly the non-swimmers. As the kids got changed and went to have fun, the parents and teachers started up the BBQ. Sausages, pikelets and chicken patties were BBQ-ed up for everyone. The Chicken patties were for Upasna ans Sneha who don't eat sausages. For the kids that had been there before, they didn't know the Hydroslides had been re-modeled. The stairs and slides were both redesigned. Everyone who went on the Hydroslides had fun sliding down of their bums, backs and stomachs. Some kids dived in head first! We learnt that lying down in the slide makes you go FASTER than if you were to sit up.

We all had a fun tiering day. Our singers entertained us throughout the drive back to Tokoroa.

Athletics Day!

Wednesday 16th November 2011

Last Thursday was our schools Athletics day!
We came to school in our P.E. gear so we could start the events as soon as possible. Unfortunately the day had a wet start as it rained down on us for half an hour! While it was pouring down, we sat down in the hall and did Athletics singing which is just like singing assembly but on Athletics day. Mr.Murray rocked out on his guitar while we sang some of the songs we haven't sung in ages!

The rest of the day went fine as the weather cleared up and the events went ahead. Us students were split up into 4 groups; Yr8 Boys ,Yr8 Girls, Yr7 Boys, and Yr7 Girls. There were 5 events that we had to get through they were; Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump, Sprints, High Jump and House Relays.

By the end of the day all events had been finished before 3:10pm and we were able to go home 20 minutes early. It was a fun filled sports day.

Wednesday 9th November 2011

Tomorrow is our school Athletics day!!! (Thursday 10th November)
During our class P.E. time we have been practicing for each event that will happen on the day. We have been participating in a lot of lunchtime races. Those races were: 200m, 300m, 1000m, 1500m.

Welcome Back!!!

Tuesday 8th November 2011

Term 4 has started and so has our Athletics Practices! -Check out the post Athletics for more info.
With only 8 Weeks in this short term we have a lot to get through. Already we have had our welcome Assembly for our new Principal Mr.Russell Thompson. He is a wonderful role-model for us kids. You will often see him wondering around the school with many keen students following him. He is an awesome principal.

Recently we had an open day for parents and Yr6 students from primary schools. They were toured around our school including our Tech/Arts rooms. The Poly Group, Kapa Haka group, and Choir preformed and left the Yr6's awestruck.

Syndicate Speeches

Today Rooms 5, 6, 7, & 8 had their semi-finals for the speeches. 14 students participated in the semi-finals. Jessica and I (Sneha) were chosen from our class. Our speeches will be displayed in Class work. Sadly we did not get chosen for the finals but we had an awesome but challenging time. To end this post The whole room 7 would like to say Good luck to the four finalists that made it into the finals.

Congratulations to Dayton Johnson from rm 5 for winning the Yr8 Speech finals!

                                                          Mandeep is 13 years young.
                                               She is an active worker and loves to do art.
                               She is such a hard worker and even was able to present her
                       speech 4 days after arriving in the school.thats even before most people did.
        Today she will be going to her first tech/arts visit. She is in group B so she will be cooking along with me! (Upasna) Room 7 would like to give her a warm welcome into this school and

Wednesday Swimming

Monday 12th September

For the last four weeks we have been going swimming at our local pools.We were sorted out into groups according to our swimming ability. Some people get moved up as they are improving very fast.We learn a variety of challenging and fun strokes including freestyle, backstroke and breastroke. In the group that Sneha and I (Jessica) are in, we get to play a really cool game for when we have been good. The game goes a little bit like this there are 3 types of water toys one is worth 100 points another worth 50 and another worth 10 points.Some kids have gone from not even touching water to been able to swim confidently.

Harold!!!!!

Harold has arrived!!! We will be leaning about the effects of drugs and alcohol to growing kids. How it effects the brain ,body and emotions. We can't wait to go see Harold in the caravan tomorrow.

Aerobics

Today rooms 5, 6, 7 and 8 joined in the fun of aerobics.We went in thinking that this is going to be so simple i mean how hard is it to do a few simple exercises. WE WERE WRONG!! Mrs Gaby's Had us Star jumping , Running on the spot and crunches ( they were by far the hardest) leaving us aching and puffed but it was worth it because it was so much fun .Thank you Mrs Gaby

Yay! Mufti day has finally arrived!

Everyone seemed to be having a great day while in clothes other than Uniform. Don't they look awesome?
We fundraised for Canteen Child Cancer Society and SPCA Animal Welfare. Our class alone raised $54.
The amount that was raised was divided into half and donated to Canteen and the SPCA.

Room 7 Rugby

Yesterday some students from Rm 7 participated in the inter class rugby.
The scores for the tournament was 4-3 to us.
The players were Kalan, Neal, Josiah.V, Josiah.N, Te Morehu, Juanita, Anjewel, Daniel, Tamati, Bryden, Eshar.
The people that scored the tries were Neal who scored 1 Try, Eshar who scored 1 try and Josiah.V who scored 2 tries that put us in the lead. These are our future All Blacks!

Cross Country

Yesterday, Eileen and Taylor of room 7 went to the Interschool Cross Country after a thrashing performance at our school Cross Country last Thursday. (18.8.2011.)

The course of our school's cross country is 3 laps around the school for the Yr7's and 4 laps for the Yr8's.
Both Taylor and Eileen are from Cobham House which is currently in the lead for the house cup.
They both ran the Yr8 girls Premiere race and Taylor came 4th while Eileen was close behind her coming in at 6th place. They both were good enough to get to the Interschool Team.

Taylor described the Interschool cross Country as "Three million hours long!"
Eileen Described the Interschool Cross Country as "Long and tiring"

Eileen came in as 49th and Taylor came in as 50th. There was about 144 students participating in the Interschools so it was a very tough, long and tiring competition.

We here in Room 7 are very proud of Taylor and Eileen for parcitipating in this competition. Awesome Job Girls! :)
